WHY EQUIP YOURSELF OR YOUR EMPLOYEES WITH FALL ARREST EQUIPMENT?
1. THE LAW
The Work at Height Regulations 2005: whatever the height, as soon as there is a risk of falling, the employer must take the necessary measures to guarantee protection against falls.
Priority to collective protections such as guardrails, scaffolding, nets etc. but:
In the absence of collective protection, individual equipment is compulsory.
The assembly or disassembly of collective protection must be done safely, therefore with fall protection equipment.
Collective protection does not exclude the wearing of harnesses (double security).
2. THE RISK IS REAL
3 workers die every day in Europe following a fall (2006, source European Union); the 2nd cause of death at work after the road (2007, CNAM). The risk does not spare those who say they are "cautious": a fall can be caused by a third party, a collapse, etc.
3. THE MATERIAL CHANGES
More and more comfortable and adapted, it is forgotten and can become more of a help than a hindrance.
THE RULE OF 3:
To set up a fall arrest system, the presence of these 3 components is essential: a harness, fall arrest lines and anchoring.
