SELF DRILLING SCREWS FOR WOOD CONSTRUCTION

Würth offers a complete range of self-drilling zinc, nickel and bichromate-plated steel screws suitable for all wood construction trades. Self-drilling wood screws have several defining characteristics such as their cylindrical head and full-body thread. They feature a large load capacity and adapt to all sizes of wood screws with our asymmetric ASSY thread. These wood screws are suitable for all types of fixing work in wood. Your choice of diameter is very important as it allows better efficiency in your work.

Whether it is for cladding, terraces, pergolas or interior carpentry, professionals are spoiled for choice with our wide range of products. In wood or masonry, the diameter and length of the screw are very important factors. Professionals can easily find screws with the right qualities, whether for work in wood or in metal.

WÜRTH’s A2 AND STAINLESS STEEL A2 SELF DRILLING WOOD SCREWS

Würth also highlights the self-drilling A2 and A4 stainless steel wood screws, which are recommended for use in humid environments. And as we always have our mind on screws, we also offer a wide range of washers suitable for self-drilling steel screws, protected by zinc, nickel and bichromate coating.

Speaking of essential daily tools, let's take the example of screwdrivers. Würth provides a whole range of screwdrivers, suitable for all types of trades and allowing optimal grip and power transmission.

Our wood screws have been developed to optimize comfort during installation and ensure versatility in use. Our screws allow operations to reinforce wood as well as connections in all simplicity.

They feature a European technical coating certification (ETA-11/0190), guaranteeing a reduced risk of splitting the wood. The self-drilling wood screws remain reliable and offer maximum security and working comfort to professionals who will no longer need to pre-drill the wood. They are also remarkable for the reinforcement of wood and ensure very reliable and efficient wood connections.

These self-drilling wood screws are perfect for different applications including wood frame, beams and renovations. The wood screws market is evolving in favour of increasingly technical solutions that allow Würth to differentiate itself and to provide wood professionals such as carpenters with real technical support.

CLAMPING SCREW

A clamping screw is intended to carry out an assembly by pressure. The wood threaded clamping screw can create a complete, rigid and removable connection between a piece of wood or a piece of metal and a wooden support.

ASSEMBLY AND REINFORCEMENT SCREWS

A joining or reinforcement screw features a fully threaded body. The total thread is used to bind and strengthen the wood fibres, with the screw acting as a reinforcement and strengthening the wood weakened by the cut. This in turn strengthens the elements under renovation and considerably reduces the risk of tearing, pressure and wood shearing.

WOOD SCREW MATERIALS

CARBON STEEL WOOD SCREWS

Würth ASSY screws are made from special carbon steel, the characteristics of which are validated by the DIBt (Deutschen Institut für Bautechnik).

Carbon, combined with iron, becomes the alloy steel, and gives it its hardness. It contributes significantly to the hardness and durability of the material.

Mechanical properties of carbon steel used for ASSY screws: Min. Tensile strength: Rm = 410 N / mm² / elastic limit min: Rp0.2 = 330 N / mm².

Carbon steel wood screws then undergo several additional operations (heat treatment, hardening, zinc coating) which give the screw its final properties.

ZINC PLATED STEEL WOOD SCREWS

Depending on the country, we speak of blue or white zinc-plated steel, or more commonly of zinc-plated steel. Zinc plating refers to a surface treatment creating a zinc coating to increase corrosion resistance and give a shiny appearance.

ASSY screws have an anti-friction PTFE coating which facilitates penetration of the screw.

• Zinc plated steel (A2K) = zinc coating thickness 5 μm.

Resistance to salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227 = 48 h.

• Zinc plated steel (A3K) = zinc coating thickness 8 μm.

Resistance to salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227 = 96 h.

The zinc-plated wood screws are intended for indoor use, not exposed to the weather.

BICHROMATE ZINC-PLATED STEEL WOOD SCREWS

Bichromate steel is sometimes also called yellow zinc-plated steel. Bichromate plating is a zinc plating process which gives the screw a more yellow appearance. It generally contains hexavalent chromium (chromium 6) which gives it its particular colouring.

Bichromate steel (A2L) = zinc coating thickness 5 μm.

Resistance to salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227 = 96 h.

The bichromated wood screws are intended for indoor use, not exposed to the weather.

STAINLESS STEEL WOOD SCREWS

So-called "stainless" steel is an alloy of iron and carbon to which chromium is added. The latter causes the formation of a protective layer of chromium oxide which will give the steel its oxidisation properties.

There are different types of stainless steel:

• Martensitic steels (high mechanical strength): C1, C3, C4…

• Ferritic steels (high corrosion resistance, does not harden): F1…

• Austenitic steels (high mechanical strength and high corrosion resistance): A2, A4…

Würth offers austenitic steel wood screws which combine good mechanical resistance as well as high corrosion resistance. Only austenitic steels can benefit from the designation A2, A4 and A5. Unlike martensitic and ferritic steels, austenitic steel is considered non-magnetic.

The stainless steel wood screws are particularly suitable for outdoor use.

WHAT IS THE AW FOOTPRINT?

The AW footprint is our unique fastener profile, represented by the following solution:

CRUCIFORME footprint (good centering) + TORX footprint (better force transmission) = AW footprint (combines all the advantages mentioned above)

It offers you an optimization of the tightening torque, excellent support, easy centring, almost no ejection forces, secure use of the screw, no deterioration of the coating and only 5 bits required for the whole of the range (from diameter 3 to 12 mm).

Close. Closer. Würth!
